24 hours of travel with two stopovers and 14 hours in a flight seat – finally we arrived in Koh Samui.

From Copenhagen to Bangkok we flew with Qatar Airlines with a stopover in Doha – “the oil sheik hood” – clearly manifested in their duty-free shop. They don’t buy alcohol, sweets and chocolates like a true Dane. Oh no, here it’s all about luxury cars, designer handbags and big gold watches. Nonetheless, some consideration had been implemented: Piles of souvenirs in every corner. Souvenirs that included everything from cups to teddy bears with CAMELS on! It must surely be a bestseller when you didn’t bring enough cash for a Bentley in the duty-free-shop.

From Bangkok to Koh Samui, we flew with a small propeller and landed in a lovely little airport that resembled something from Jurassic Park – i.e. without the dinosaurs, but with the beautiful bungalow-type buildings, green oases and big shiny SUVs transporting tourists convoy-style.

We jumped aboard one of the cars and headed for Chaweng Beach, the largest beach on the island. Once again Martin proved his natural flair for hotel booking. In Chaweng we checked into a 40 m2 Junior Suite with a balcony overlooking the water – only 40 USD! Not sure we are ever coming home again …
